Our July 4 party is held July 3 every year. Our town fireworks are on July 3 and you can either walk 15 minutes to the park where they are shown, or drag a chair into the road next to our house and watch them from there.
We invite the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks, which has close to 100 members, and our other friends. I make some spiral hams, order cakes from Costco, and the rest is pot luck. We borrow tables and bar equipment from Kiwanis, and sometimes borrow chairs from the church. Given that my back has been acting up, we opted to have chairs delivered this year.
It looks like a popular event this year. 75 (yikes) people have signed up. This morning I counted every available sofa, chair, lawn chair that we own. Those plus the 36 chairs I have rented means that almost everyone will have a seat.
Steve is in NY attending his Aunt Alice's 90th birthday party. His absence has given me a chance to shampoo carpets, plant flowers in bare spots in our garden, and scrub the patio. All those activities are terrible for my back. But they're done. I see Jean Duffy, chiropractor par excel lance, a week from Tuesday. And I've bought the beer, but it's going to sit in the truck until Steve gets home. Last major housework for tomorrow is to clean the science projects out of the fridge and make room. Then I'm done.
Tonight I'm having coffee with our dear friends Ron and Elda. Tomorrow I'm going to an Obama rally here in town. It'll be a nice break.
