The party was a huge success. More than 70 people did show up. And they all fit in our space, although those seated at tables couldn't get up once they sat down! Everyone brought wonderful food to share - shrimp, antipasto, cheese croissants, dips, fabulous fruit salads, lovely side dishes, and delcious green salads. We also had cakes, cupcakes, pecan pie, and apple cake. No one went hungry, that's for sure.
It cooled off a little in the evening and a very slight sea breeze kept everyone comfortable. The fireworks were nice. We sang a little. The view is only fair, as we are a distance from the park, and there was some conversation about taking up a collection to have a critical tree removed that seems to be growing dangerously high for viewing.
Yesterday we cleaned up what was left after our friends did the majority of cleanup the night before, then went to another wonderful July 4 party to see fireworks in Thousand Oaks.
Today we're in trip mode! Went to the post office to double-check the mail holding instructions. Then to the Moorpark Mail and More to set up an account. If you're local and need shipping services, see Casey. He's terrific. Gets our Christmas cookies to the East Coast on time and has helped us with mail to Tunisia for us. He is extremely accommodating. Also bought a cable lock for our gennies, some California goodies to take to our friends back east, and set up a staging area in the garage for all the stuff that we'll pile into the trailer on Tuesday and Wednesday.
I re-did our to-do lists and we're ready to roll!
