Alexandria, Virginia August 15-17

Alexandria, Virginia

This has been a great visit. We spent yesterday with daughter Ann, who lives in Alexandria, at Lorton, at the campsite just sitting and visiting. We don’t get to see our daughters enough, and having a whole day to catch up on what Ann was doing was very nice. And…it didn’t rain!

Today we came to Alexandria and spent the day. Ann babysat Doogie while we met our friends, Sonya and David Cowie, at the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C. for brunch. They are from Columbia, MD, where we used to live, and it has been 6 years for me, and 5 years for Steve, since we have seen them. Sonya is a retired Principle from the International School in DC, and David, who is a Psychiatrist, is on the faculty at Hopkins. They look great and are, as usual, busy traveling around, around David’s work schedule.

It hasn’t rained, but it is hot.

A note about the iron I obsessed about early in the blog: We needed dress clothes to go to the Cosmos Club, which I had mentioned earlier in the blog, and after some debate with myself, decided to pack an iron. We are dragging th iron around, but I have noticed that campgrounds with laundry rooms almost always have an iron and board in the laundry. In addition, today I used Ann’s iron to touch up our dress-up clothes. So…do you need an iron on a 2-month RV trip? No.

Lorton, VA, 3:00 PM

Hello from Pohick Bay Regional Park, in Lorton, VA, just off I-95/Route 1. It’s suburban Washington, DC, but once off Route 1 it’s a completely different world. The area is rural, sparsely populated, heavily wooded, and bordered by the Potomac. Our campsite is large and private with large trees shading the sun, which will be a good thing tomorrow when it’s hot and sunny. The couple parked in the next site is very friendly; we’ve already toured each other’s RVs.
It’s raining again, as it it has just about every day since we left Fargo. Steve took his computer, which has never worked from day one, to Fairfax where there is a factory authorized repair shop. I’ve been encouraging him to buy a Toshiba like the one I have with loads of power and great graphics capability. It has Vista and Office 2007, which everyone complains about, but which have worked very well for me. It was a little learning curve, but I love the new PowerPoint and Word.
