Badlands National Park

We've just returned from a wonderful day touring Badlands National Park. It has been described as like the moon, but that description doesn't do it justice. It's prairie and high desert, intermixed with spires and buttes of course, fragile rock that jut out of the flat land. Every few miles a flower or a copse of trees grows in the middle of dry, powdery grass and rock. I'll let the photos speak for themselves, but it's an amazing place that I've always wanted to see and was well worth a 400+ mile drive yesterday.

Tomorrow we will go to Custer, SD, set in between Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, about 80 miles from here. On Monday Doogie is going to get a bath while we tour the monuments. Good thing; he still smells like Lake Erie!
