Badlands National Park

Again we drove > 400 miles, but we're in the Badlands, 75 miles from Mt. Rushmore, and looking forward to several days of sight-seeing in this amazing place. There are many things to do including visiting a prairie dog town, seeing the Crazy Horse sculpture, visiting Mt. Rushmore, touring Badlands NP, visiting crystal caves, staying in Deadwood (a tourist trap for sure, but sounds like fun).

This morning a strong southerly wind and high humidity felt like a thunderstorm would hit any minute. Knowing that we wanted to get to the Badlands by tonight, we left early, with the wind pushing the trailer all over Route 90. As we headed west, the clouds got darker and darker and the wind seemed to get worse. Steve commented that he was on the lookout for funnel clouds. The threatening weather gave way to clear skies, and by the time we got to Interior, SD, it was 80 and dry and breezy.

We're tired, but it was worth pushing a bit. We have picked up two days and can do some serious sight-seeing here before going on to the Tetons.
