Arrived safely in Tahoe after taking a leisurely 2 days to come up 395 in the eastern Sierra mountains. It's a beautiful drive, but the 110 degree heat and the smoke from the fires in Sacramento and Big Sur obscured the view and made parts of the drive uncomfortable. Our malted milk balls melted, but that was the biggest problem we had.
Stayed overnight in Bishop, California and had a very good meal to celebrate Steve's birthday at Whiskey Pete's or Whisky Creek or some other Whisky-named steak house.
This morning we awoke to 55 degrees and sunny, with the air quality here, also affected by the fires, much improved over yesterday. Because of the smoke, we will limit our activities, but expect to get together with Carol's friend Jay's family for a barbeque. Carol looks wonderful, as usual.
We will stay here until early Monday morning, then leave for Flathed Lake via Wells, NV and Dillon, MT.

Jean and Steve, Your postings are great! The smoke here is awful and seems to be staying with us for a long while. Let us know how far up the road it extends. We have been to flat head lake - it's beautiful - you'll love it! Will okk forward to more postings. Sally
